What to Expect
The initial consultation and treatment takes about 1.5 hours as it includes time to review your health history and present condition, and conduct a physical exam. Acupuncture treatment will be determined based on the intake, incorporating other modalities as needed such as cupping, moxa, far infrared heat, and tuina. Sometimes Chinese herbs will be part of the treatment strategy, and that may be recommended as part of the course of care along with recommendations to diet, lifestyle, and therapeutic exercises to be done at home.

Please bring with you any relevant medical test results, such as lab tests, MRI reports, etc. If you’d like to save time on the first visit, you can download our Initial Intake Form and fill out beforehand.

Please wear comfortable loose clothing to the session. Also, try not to eat foods or substances that can discolor your tongue before the visit, as we examine the tongue as part of the intake.

Follow up visits are about an hour with less time needed for the intake, allowing more focus on the treatment.

If Chinese herbs are prescribed, the cost will vary based on the formula used and whether herbs are dispensed in pill or powder form. The average cost for pills has been about $15-$20 per week. The cost for custom herb powder formulas can vary between $25-$40 per week. Certain herb formulas may be more expensive due to herb costs. Herb costs have been rising every year due to the valuation of the Chinese yuan and raw herb speculators.

All of our herbs are GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certified, sulfur free, and have been tested for DDT, Hexachlorabenzene, lead, arsenic, mercury, cadmium and other contaminants.

Payment methods accepted are cash, check, Flex Spending, Health Savings Account (HSA) or credit card (Visa, Mastercard and Discover).

It is important to know that some health plans impose restrictions on the conditions treated and/or the number of treatments allowed in a calendar year. Some also have deductibles you need to meet, and may require a referral from an M.D. Also most plans do not reimburse for herbs or supplements.
